Senior Data Governance Analyst

Job Purpose:

The ideal candidate will be an experienced Data Governance / Data Protection professional who wants to work with a high-performing team and rise to the challenge of maintaining and governing Enterprise data model and data interchange between systems while assuring business alignment and compliance across the Enterprise. This is a chance to work as part of a Processes & Data Governance department and the Data Protection Office in a fast moving environment and deliver a best in class governance model. The key initial objective obviously would be to engage with and start to drive the ongoing GDPR compliance initiative as soon as possible and assure compliance going forward.

Key Responsibilities

  • Become expert in the data ecosystem and the business drivers Enterprise-Wide and act as Data Protection Officer with global oversight of that data ecosystem
  • Liaise closely with business stakeholders to assure business needs considered in data initiatives
  • Drive implementation of key requirements of the EU General Data Protection Regulation as defined by the Data Protection Office
  • Design and deliver appropriate Data Governance policies and procedures as part of the DPO
  • Define and deploy appropriate 3<sup>rd</sup> party contracts / templates where required with Legal team
  • Manage Data Protection incidents in concert with Business, Technical and Legal teams
  • Contribute to implementation of a Data Governance framework
  • Develop and update all relevant Data Governance materials ensuring that they remain relevant
  • Work with Analytics department to monitor adherence to Data Quality policies
  • Work with Training and Support team to organise and deliver Data Protection training
  • With various project teams, maintain a cohesive and reliable data model considering such elements as master data management, data integrity and data flow optimisation
  • Work with Analytics teams to ensure target data model, business model and reporting model all match and Applications, ODS, Data Warehouse and Data Quality engines are aligned
  • Work with Business teams, Business Analysts and Analytics teams to define data quality metrics
  • As part of Data Governance function contribute to the review and approval of Data Model / data flow changes planned for technical implementation and assure change control
  • Work with Data and Application Engineers to validate the migration of or acquisition of data
  • Work with 3<sup>rd</sup> party vendors and internal teams to ensure delivery of the planned data model
  • Identify design flaws, and suggest solutions to defects / data quality issues especially where GDPR / other compliance is a concern

Desired Competencies/ skills:


  • Business Literacy: Ability to understand the business, to take the business vision and translate it into a business data needs and data model. Ability to understand and discuss financial impacts and financial data needs with business / accounting users
  • GDPR Familiarity: Understanding of EU General Data Protection Regulations, their impacts on business and technology and what the key priorities should be
  • Language and communication: Fluency in English and an ability to communicate clearly at both business and technical levels. Ability to translate business requirements, flows and processes into technical data needs. French / Italian a strong advantage
  • Issue Management: Ability to identify, analyse and prioritise issues arising and know when to escalate / request mitigation plans.
  • Problem Solving and Decision-Making: Ability to analyze and define a problem, evaluate alternatives, find a solution, understand how and when to make a choice.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to recognise the future impact of decisions on the big-picture or overall data model; ability to understand and communicate how they relate to short and long-term deliverables


  • Data Modelling: Ability to understand and generate data models; data flow diagrams; entity relationship diagrams; and match to business use cases / user stories
  • Data Architecture: Demonstrable understanding of Data Architecture (best practices and practical implementation) in a multi-technology data ecosystem supported by Enterprise Architecture Integration platform or Service Oriented Architecture
  • Data Governance: Ability to balance business rules and policies with IT constraints or best practices and communicate clear and rational cases on either side to ensure neither business nor IT requirements endanger data integrity or data quality or compromise compliance
  • Normalisation: Ability to recognize, justify and communicate the best level of data normalisation / de-normalisation at any given layer
  • Master Data Management: Ability to apply best practices to Master Data Management and agree with / communicate to business and technical teams any decision related to this discipline


  • 3rd level qualification in Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
  • 6+ years’ experience working with Data
  • Including at least 2 years of relevant experience in the area of data governance
  • Excellent business understanding particularly in Retail / Ecommerce environments
  • Open minded and able to balance technical and business drivers to find the right solution
  • Detailed understanding of EU General Data Protection Regulations
  • Experience working collaboratively with Compliance, Legal and Management teams
  • Knowledge of major database/data processing technologies (MSSQL and MySQL)
  • Experience working on business process transformation or migration projects
  • Demonstrated ability to find practical, pragmatic and creative solutions to compliance issues
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Good English verbal and written communication skills
  • Ideally French and/or Italian fluency

Any or all of the below would be advantageous:

  • Strong understanding of web services / middle office integrations solutions and the impacts on Data Modeling and Data flows and Data Governance
  • Ability to work with MS SQL Stack and ideally MySQL as well
  • Experience with Cloud Data environments
  • Experience working within a service oriented architecture
  • Experience in an E-Commerce environment
  • Knowledge of, or experience working with, Microsoft AX or Salesforce
  • Experience working as a Data Engineer / Data Architect
  • Experience with rolling out employee training and educational programmes
