Web Trading Executive

As Web Trading Exec you will be responsible for the optimisation of individual product on the Buyagift website, with a day to day focus of increasing device level conversion, reducing bounce rate, and support the business to hit overall sales and conversion targets.  You will sit within the eCommerce team, and will report into the Web Trading Manager.

About the eCommerce Team

The eCommerce Team is a team of trade planners, website merchandisers, web designers, and conversion optimisation specialists.  Together they are accountable for ensuring the delivery of B2C sales and conversion targets with budgeted spend constraints.  The team co-ordinates across many different areas of the business, including online marketing and acquisition, buying, and IT.



  • Work alongside the Website Trading Manager to regularly and efficiently maintain all the Buyagift website, including
    • Day to day website merchandising, to support wider company marketing message, including leading all seasonal/peak trading campaigns
    • Supporting fellow trading executives to hit business master category sales and margin targets
    • Analysing the commercial return of all activities carried out onsite
  • Ensure all content is accurate, up-to-date, brand-appropriate & optimized for SEO
  • Own monitoring of trading KPIs and targets – and escalating issues internally
  • Optimise key landing pages and trading pages, as dictated by trading performance, to drive top level improvements in conversion and bounce rate across all three major device types
  • Produce reports to monitor web KPIs, taking actions to boost low performing areas
  • Work alongside the Website Trading Manager to deliver new processes and strategies around Onsite search and navigation functionality
  • Support wider eCommerce team to deliver new functionality and trading strategies
  • Work alongside acquisition team (PPC, Affiliate, SEO) to identify and analyse channel trends, help optimise and convert traffic coming to the site, and support sales and ROI through all channels
  • Work with applicable project groups to flag barriers to website conversion and propose technical solutions



This role will best suit an individual who is well organised, pragmatic, and a lateral thinker, with an inquisitive mind who is motivated to work both individually and as part of a team. 


Key Skills

  • Strong commercial understanding, having min 1 year experience working within a retail environment
  • High attention to detail with an ability to demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Quick learner with ability to think pro-actively and build solid working relationships with peers
  • Natural planner, looking ahead, anticipating and escalating issues before they arise, providing solutions, and meeting deadlines
  • Proven time management and organisation skills
  • A keen analytical mind, with a willingness to challenge yourself and solve problems
  • Experience of using Endeca
  • Basic web analytics knowledge


Desirable Skills

  • Strong web analytics knowledge (preferably SiteCatalyst/Omniture, Google Analytics, but any tool is great!)
  • Experience of working in a conversion optimisation role
  • Experience in digital marketing areas (SEO, PPC, Affiliates)
  • Experience of working alongside Buying and IT teams
  • Hands on A/B or multivariate testing experience
